Eczema & Psoriasis
Atopic eczema- the most common form of eczema- is a condition that typically presents in children. It can, on occasion, develop for the first time in adults. It is usually a chronic (long term) condition, however, in many cases if it has developed in childhood many people have seen significant improvements, if not completely cleared in adulthood.
Eczema can affect any part of the body, but is most commonly found on hands, insides of elbows, backs of the knees and face. The condition itself causes the skin to become itchy, dry, cracked and sore. Skin can become very inflamed with some people having a small area affected whilst others experience widespread inflamed skin all over their body. “Atopic” means sensitivity to allergens. Food allergies can play a role in triggering this condition, however, it is associated with other conditions such as asthma and hay fever. Other common triggers can include stress, soaps and detergents.
Psoriasis can present similarly to Eczema, and is also found in similar affected areas of the body. Psoriasis has differs in triggers and is most cases is a chronic condition. The understanding is that those who suffer this condition over-produce or have an increased production of skin cells which results in a build up, creating the patches associated with psoriasis. This process is still not fully understood, but it is thought to be related to a problem with the immune system.
Topical prescription ointments and steroids are usually the first-line treatment to settle a flare up of the condition, however, at Sur Medispa we offer the multi award winning Light Therapy system – Dermalux Tri Wave which is clinically proven to treat and minimise flare ups of both Eczema and Psoriasis.
