What is the Nefertiti NeckLift?
One of the most effective, yet under-utilized cosmetic uses of neuromodulators is a treatment known as the Nefertiti NeckLift. Queen Nefertiti of ancient Egypt was known for her beautiful sleek neck and contoured jawline. The Nefertiti is a fast and economical way to restore a youthful neck and jawline. It does so via a muscle known as the platysma.
The platysma is a broad sheet of muscle that originates in the pectoral (chest) and deltoid (shoulder) muscles, rises over the clavicle (collarbone) and proceeds upwards along the sides of the neck. The muscle inserts partly at the mandible (the jaw) but also attaches to the skin of the lower face and the muscles surrounding the mouth. The muscle increases the diameter of the neck and draws the lower lip and corner of the mouth sideways and downward. It is part of the muscle system known as the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (the SMAS).
All you really need to know is that, as we age, the platysma is the muscle responsible for the tight vertical cords that appear in the neck and is one of the culprits that cause the downward grooves (marionette lines) which appear at the corners of the mouth. It contributes to pulling our lower face down and the appearance of jowls. It is a major cause of horizontal (necklace) lines and laxity in the neck.
